The previous year’s solstice event Ombre Perenni at the magnificent cloister of the University of Rome’s Engineering School, encouraged Kristin Jones to propose a second experimental program held in the cloister and destined for Piazza Tevere.
She Shadows was a collaborative event conceived by Jones, with an original score by composer Alvin Curran, which featured a procession of cinematic shadow projections by Alberto D’Amico & Annalisa Corsi, Bennet Pimpinella and students of Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Rome. The live performance of orbiting shadows and sound re-animated and re-interpreted the legend of the Roman She-Wolf in the cloister of San Pietro in Vincoli on the evening of the summer solstice.
The composition “Romulus + Remus Make a Ruckus” by Alvin Curran was built from the large collection of sound recordings of wolves gifted to Jones by Masque Sound Studio in NYC. The animations were created by students at IED including Andrea Biagioni and Gabriele Manecchi.
